By George Welcome
My e-mail drawer is flooded with a large number of thanks and reports of fantastic times on the Marsh. The weather is still being fickle but the number of good days versus bad is on the rise. Fishing trips have been very successful on most days with a lot of big fish being taken on artificials and shiners. The old irrigation canals, (boat trails), and their adjacent hydrilla beds continue to hold large schools of fish and both rattletraps and Carolina rigged baits work well in these areas. Of particular note are two North/South trails. The first is located closest to the west wall of the Farm and the other is the one directly east of that. If you have a map, do not count the trail that is directly on the west wall. The areas to fish in these trails is north of the East/West trail that runs from the pump house to the fisherman’s shack on the west wall. The SW corner of the Farm is producing fish in quantity and quality: See my pages and click on (www.probass.com comes to Stick Marsh) for a sample of the quality. Fish are not deep in the corner but rather out in the open water and are still staging for the upcoming spawn. I have only see a few females with flaccid bellies. A lot of bucks are being caught deeper in around the bedding areas. Be sure to monitor the pump house as this can be a bonanza area when the pump is running.
